Database Engineer – Level 2

DESCRIPTION:

Ascendant Innovations Corp is looking for an experienced Database Engineer (Level 2). The Database Engineer shall provide technical expertise for database design, development, implementation, information storage and retrieval, data flow and analysis. The DBE shall develop relational and/or Object-Oriented databases, database parser software, and database loading software. Furthermore, the DBE projects long-range requirements for database administration and design, while being responsible for developing a database structure that fits into the overall architecture of the system under development and has to make trades among data volumes, number of users, logical and physical distribution, response times, retention rules, security and domain controls.

 REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Must have experience with PostgreSQL and PostGIS.
• Experience designing/optimizing PostgreSQL database schemas, indexes, and queries for performance and scalability.
• Ability to implement and maintain high availability (HA) and replication strategies.
• Ability to automate routine tasks using scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python).
• Strong SQL skills and experience with performance tuning and query optimization.
• Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments and CLI tools like psql.
• Experience with logical and physical replication, partitioning, and backup strategies.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., pg_stat_statements, Prometheus, Grafana).
• Knowledge of scripting languages for automation and tooling.
• Experience with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) is desired.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible) is desired.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS RDS, GCP Cloud SQL, or Azure Database for PostgreSQL) is desired.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline and five (5) years of experience as a database engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.

OR

• Ten (10) years of full time, directly related, database engineering experience in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.

Clearance Requirements:
Must be a US Citizen with an active Top Secret/SCI w/polygraph.
